Women in Games: Sony’s G.I.R.L Scholarship

Started two years ago, in an attempt to draw more women to the field of video game design and production, Sony Online Entertainment’s G.I.R.L. Scholarship awards $10,000 to one female student currently enrolled in a game-related undergraduate program. In addition to the $10,000 to be used toward education expenses, G.I.R.L. (Gamers In Real Life) winners are also given the opportunity to intern at Sony for 10 weeks. The program encourages women in all areas of game development—animation, programming, art, production, and more—to develop their passion for games and become actively involved in the still male-dominated industry.
